Provincial Assessments

For a student to meet standard graduation requirements and be awarded a British Columbia Certificate of Graduation (Dogwood Diploma), students must earn a minimum of 80 credits and write the following provincial assessments.

Literacy 10
Numeracy 10
Literacy 12

  • Assessments are not linked to specific courses. For example, while they are both required, you do not need to complete English 12 before you write the Literacy 12 Assessment.
  • Assessments are marked on a scale from 1-4.
  • If you do not complete exams, you will not have completed a graduation certificate unless the child meets requirements for exemption.
  • Assessments looks at the students’ ability to apply their knowledge and skills and to analyze, reason, and communicate effectively as they examine, interpret and solve problems.
  • Students can rewrite the exam twice, though rewriting is not required.

  • Arrive on time.
  • Arrive well-rested, hydrated and focused.
  • Turn off cell phone.
  • All exam sessions are two hours long, with the option to extend by 1 hour if needed.
  • Students with IEPs need to coordinate with their Case Managers for support through the exam.
