During the last four years, the Cowichan Valley School District has been on a journey of
educational transformation through creating innovative learning opportunities for our students.
The focus has been on the Educated Citizen and creating learning environments that are
learner-centred, inclusive, social, profoundly personalized, structured, and well developed. All
of this learning has culminated in schools creating school plans to support this important work.
As we continue forward on this journey, and create a visionary document reflective of this work,
we require a strong strategic vision inclusive of everyone’s voice.
The purpose of this procedure is to ensure that vision reflects the voice of our community, so it
is important for us to ask the right questions of our Students, Staff, and Parents as we work
through this visioning process.

Welcome to Our School and Our Community

Chemainus Secondary School (CHSS) wishes to welcome all new and returning students to the 2019-2020 school year. Chemainus Secondary is a Grade 7-12 school of approximately 384 students that provides a full educational program within a flexible, caring and safe environment.

Chemainus is a picturesque town located on the eastern coast of Vancouver Island, British Columbia. The town is internationally recognized due to the 30+ huge murals painted on buildings throughout the community depicting the history of the local area. Students come from Chemainus as well as the neighboring communities Crofton and Saltair.
